TAVISTOCK Community Football Club was the venue for the 2016 West Devon Primaries’ School Games’ football finals on Friday.
Teams came from North Tawton, Okehampton, Exbourne, Boasley Cross, Hatherleigh, St Andrew’s Buckland Monachorum, Whitchurch, Tavistock, Bere Alston and Horrabridge.
No team won all their pool games and the competition was exciting right to the end. Horrabridge, despite losing their first game to St Andrew’s emerged winners of Pool A, with St Andrew’s second, Hatherleigh third, Whitchurch fourth and Boasley Cross fifth, who only lost one game, which was to Hatherleigh.
Okehampton and Tavistock came first and second in Pool B, followed by North Tawton, Bere Alston and Exbourne.
Horrabridge played Tavistock in the first semi-final which they won 1-0. Okehampton and St Andrew’s had a close game in the second semi-final which ended up 1-1, had to go to penalties and then sudden death penalties to separate them. St Andrew’s were the victors so went through to the final against Horrabridge.
Okehampton and Tavistock played for the bronze medals which Okehampton won 2-1.
St Andrew’s won the Cup and the gold medals with a 2-1 win over Horrabridge who received the silver medals.
OCRA spokesperson Mhairi McCall, who organised the event, thanked Allen and Mark Lewis for their friendly and efficient officiating of the event.
The next west Devon School Games final is the tag rugby event at Okehampton College on April 26.
