HORRABRIDGE FC welcomed back 14 local teams for their annual football tournament in aid of CLIC Sargent. This year’s event raised an amazing £1,650.33 for the charity.
One of their players — Sarah and Pete Bruce’s son Daniel — sadly died at the age of 10 from leukaemia. His twin brother, James, still plays for Horrabridge Rangers.
Teams from around Tavistock and Plymouth came together to only play football, but to also have a fun day out. There was a barbecue, bouncy castle, candy floss stall and despite a few rain showers, everybody had a great day.
Pete and Sarah have now organised their annual football tournament for over four years raising more than £7,000 for CLIC Sargent in the process.
CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people and their families. CLIC Sargent are there from diagnosis onwards and aim to help the whole family deal with the impact of cancer and its treatment, life after treatment and, in some cases, bereavement.
Event organiser Sarah Bruce said: ‘CLIC Sargent gave us, Daniel and his brothers a huge amount of support during his illness and after. We want to support this charity as when we were in hospital, I was shocked by the amount of children and families, just like us, who kept arriving each week. They had either the same diagnosis or other cancers and needing and receiving CLIC Sargent’s help and support.’
James, Daniel’s twin brother, wants to continue this yearly fundraising to help the charity who helped his brother and his family.
CLIC Sargent fundraising manager Jordan Anderton said: ‘We are so grateful to have the continuous support of Sarah and Pete Bruce and everyone at Horrabridge FC, they have done an extremely good job fundraising once again this year for CLIC Sargent. I really hope they feel proud of themselves for making such a difference to the local community.’
In 2015 CLIC Sargent supported 132 families in Devon, providing them with practical, emotional and financial support to help them overcome the obstacles that a childhood cancer brings.
