Walter Parson Peninsula League Cup final
Falmouth Town 4
Tavistock AFC 2
(after extra time)
TAVISTOCK AFC manager Stuart Henderson was forced to make changes to his starting line up, with Liam Prynn, Kelvin Fyneboy and Reece Shanley all cup tied.
The game, between two good teams, went to extra time to decide the winner and it was Falmouth that came out on top. The game got off to fast start with both teams probing for the opening goal, Annear had a shot well saved by Lambs’ keeper Josh Oak, before Jack Crago saw his fine effort which looked destined for the net blocked by a defender.
The match continued to flow from end to end with both goalkeepers and defences in excellent form dealing with anything that was being thrown at them.
It was the Lambs that broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when Dave Hallett provided the perfect cross into the near post from a free kick and Josh Grant glided the ball home from close range at the near post.
Back came Falmouth forcing a great save from Oak to deny Babyn, before Barns made an equally good save from a fine effort by Josh Grant. Grant then headed inches wide of the target. Just before the interval Oak made another good save to deny Broglino from levelling the score.
Early in the second half the Lambs should have doubled their lead when a good move down the right saw Grant’s terrific effort go inches wide of the target.
But it was Falmouth that levelled the score in the 52nd minute when the Lambs failed to clear their lines - the ball fell kindly for Annear who slammed the ball home from close range.
Falmouth were now having their best period in the game and took the lead in the 58th minute when Oak made two great saves but the ball fell kindly to Brabyn who scored from close range. Tavistock then missed a golden opportunity to level when fine work by Tyler Elliot find Crago but he blazed the ball over the bar from close range.
The Lambs levelled the score in the 80th minute when a fine move saw Elliot find Dan Sullivan who thundered home an unstoppable shot from 20 yards into the top corner of the net.
The game could have gone either way in the final minutes with both sides creating chances but both defences and keepers held firm as the final whistle went.
Once again play was very even in the first period of extra time with Warren Daw going close for the Lambs as they were looking the more dangerous. But then just before the break in extra time a shot ricocheted off a Lambs’ defender, the ball fell to Annear who slotted the ball home to give Falmouth the lead. Tavistock were now forced to push men forward chasing an equaliser. They did manage to get the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offside.
In the 109th minute a mix up in defence saw the ball fall to Annear who was in on goal; he calmly lobbed the advancing Oak to score his third goal which sealed the victory, and earned him the Golden Boot award as Peninsula League leading goal scorer. Barns then made a great save to deny young Alex Cairo from reducing the score as the final whistle went.
Derek Pethick, on behalf of the club, said: ‘This was a disappointing result for the Lambs to end what has otherwise has been another very good season. Runners up in the league, along with excellent FA Cup and FA Vase runs pays testament to what a very good squad the management team Stuart Henderson and Ken Ord has put together. Also the club setting a new record for the number of goals scored in a Peninsula League season of 151.
‘All the players in the squad can be proud of what they have achieved providing the loyal supporters of the club with excellent football entertainment.’

St Austell 1
THE Lambs got off to the perfect start opening the scoring in the first minute after a good move saw Jack Crago fire the ball home.
St Austell then settled and Tavistock goalkeeper. Josh Oak was forced to make a good save to deny Goldsworthy from levelling the scores. The game flowed from end to end with both teams playing some fine football.
Just before the interval the Lambs doubled their lead when another fine move saw the ball find Crago who finished with aplomb.
The second half saw St Austell make a fast start with both Calver and Goldsworthy testing Oak in the home goal but made two good saves.
The Lambs responded by increasing their lead in the 50th minute when a fierce shot from Josh Grant rebounded back off keeper Chapman, into the path of Liam Prynn, who calmly slotted the ball home.
Tallin Burns then replaced Jack Crago and soon Burns glided past defenders before providing a perfect cross for Rosenquest to fire home.
Manager Stuart Henderson then made substitutions for Tavistock with Dave Hallett and Liam Prynn being replaced by Corrie Burns and Luke Brown.
St Austell continued to play some fine football with young Soars a threat down the flanks, and it was he that provided the perfect cross for Goldsworthy to score.
With five minutes remaining the Lambs were reduced to ten men when Reece Shanley left the field with a nasty knee injury.
Shortly afterwards St Austell were reduced to ten men when Goldsworthy was shown a straight red card for a tackle.
Kelvin Fyneboy then saw his fine effort deflected away for a corner kick, before Tallin Burns completed the scoring as his fine shot went in off the far post giving Chapman no chance of saving.
This was another fine team performance against a very good St Austell team.
