CALLINGTON Town Football Club’s ladies’ second team, who play in the Cornwall Women’s League division one, have appointed Rhys Sullivan as their new manager.

Rhys, an experienced coach, helped oversee the side’s recent league cup win at Penryn.

He obtained his UEFA B coaching licence in 2005 and has since held roles in numerous coaching positions, including roles at UK Elite Soccer in Maryland USA and Cornwall Girls Centre of Excellence. Rhys has also held managerial positions at both St Cleer FC (men’s) and Plymouth Argyle ladies’ first team. He has a host of trophies to his name including the women’s county cup in Devon and going undefeated as South West Combination Winners in the 2010 season.

Speaking on the appointment of the women’s first team manager Adam McPherson said: ‘We were so pleased with the people who came forward about taking on the role, but Rhys was one of the stand-out candidates. We have a connection with him via our first team’s assistant manager, David Battams, so we knew a bit about him and his experience within the game. He’s the ideal person to come in. He’s over-qualified if anything, so we couldn’t afford to not bite his hand off when he offered to get involved. He also knows a few of the current players which helps. Mainly though, he has the right ideas and approach to the game, as well as the coaching skills, which is what our players need, especially those who are looking to develop and improve in the coming years.’
