Tavistock AFC 5

THE Lambs visited local rivals Bere Alston last Saturday, and recorded their first win during a hectic week of friendlies.

The game opened at a fine pace with both teams playing some fine football. Tavistock came closest to opening the coring when a Dan Sullivan thunderous shot was inches wide of the target.

The  Lambs continued to control possession, and deservedly took the lead in the 18th minute, when a great passing move saw the ball find Jack Crago, who fired low into the corner of the net.

Three minutes later another flowing move saw Jack Crago find Dan Sullivan just inside the penalty area; he calmly curled a perfect shot into the top corner of the net giving the goalkeeper no chance of saving, to double Tavistock’s lead.

Bere Alston’s first real chance on goal came in the 24th minute when Bray fired over from 20 yards. Back came the visitors as Crago saw his fine header from a Sullivan cross go inches wide of the target.

Bray then had a fine effort saved by the Tavistock keeper but it was the visitors that looked the more likely to score as both Sullivan and Crago went close with fine efforts as the half time whistle came.

The Lambs continued to control the play in the second half. Dan Sullivan and Steve Rogers exchanged passes to open up the home defence for Jack Crago to rifle home from ten yards.

In the 63rd minute Bere were awarded a free kick 20 yards from goal; Steve Bray’s kick hit the crossbar and was cleared for a corner kick. Tavistock will be disappointed with the manner they conceded from the corner kick. The kick to the near post saw Bere’s Steve Bray first to the ball to glance a header into the net.

Tavistock continued to produce some fine passing football and it was not long before Dan Sullivan got his second of the afternoon with a fine low shot into the corner of the net.

Shortly afterwards a defensive mix up saw the ball deflected which required the Lambs keeper to make an acrobatic save to deny the home team from reducing the arrears.

In the 77th minute another fine move down the left flank saw Josh Robins give a perfect pass to Luke Brown — his penetrating run led to him being brought down in the penalty area.  Adam Carter slotted home the spot kick to make it five for the Lambs.

Bere Alston continued to play some good football throughout the game but it was Tavistock who controlled in the attacking third of the pitch and showed a cutting edge.

This was a good work out for Tavistock against a well organised Bere Alston team that played some fine football.
