Tavistock 29
Plymstock Albion Oaks 0
TAVISTOCK first XV maintained their 100% home record in front of a large crowd supporting the clubs’ vice presidents’ and sponsors’ day.
The win sees the Moorlanders up to fifth in the league table and boasting a 67-0 home points tally.
On a perfect day for rugby despite a soggy surface underneath, Tavistock got off to a flying start when a good half break from Ash Miller saw an offload to Josh Langton and finally Ethan Lamerton going over in the corner for his first senior try. From this Tavistock cemented their dominance at the scrum when the first one of the game marched towards the Oaks’ line resulting in a home penalty. This common theme paired with an 100% lineout record set a platform for the ever present Mark Friend to break free and hand off the lone full back to score.
Despite a sin binning for Charlie Charlton, Tavistock continued their set piece dominance and were rewarded when a five -metre scrum turned into a penalty try for the home side.
The second half started in much similar fashion for Tavistock despite playing against the wind. Unfortunately due to injury to a number of Oaks’ players the scrums went uncontested but not before another five- metre scrum was walked over the line, allowing captain Andrew Schuttkacker to sit down for the easiest of tries.
Oaks did enjoy some possession late in the half but Tavistock defended well with Josh Langton and man of the match Phil Wilson ever prominent.
After soaking up much of the guests’ attack a quick turnover saw Lamerton finish well from 40 yards to complete his brace. Ben Hadfield completed a tricky conversion.
