Tavistock seconds 12

Kingsbridge seconds 26

THE opening 40 minutes produced much effort from both sides, but neither team managed to stamp any real authority.

This resulted in no scoring until right on the half-time whistle, when Kingsbridge, who had been under pressure from the home side for some time, made a breakout scored a try in the corner, which was converted, to give them a 7-0 lead.

Tavistock started the second half in determined mood and after five minutes, a good handling move from the backs, saw left wing Monty Burdfield race 40 metres up the touchline to score a fine try. Unfortunately, Burdfield was injured in scoring and took no further part in the game.

Kingsbridge came back and within a few minutes, scored a soft try, when Tavistock failed to clear a kick ahead. Tavistock then had their best period and with back row men Pete Davis and Tom Dawe prominent, put Kingsbridge under continual pressure. From a catch and drive lineout move, the Tavistock pack drove over for a well deserved try. Tom Dawe emerging from under the pile of bodies to claim the score. Josh Sutton added a fine conversion to make it 12-12. Injuries and tiredness disrupted the home side in the closing stages and the visitors scored two late converted tries, to give them a flattering victory. Hallam Bourton did much good work in the lineout.

n This week Tavistock seconds are away to Crediton in the league.
