HOT on the heels of the most successful Olympic Games in living memory and inspired by some stunning performances in London, Tavistock Athletic Club are hoping that many people will turn up to an open event they are organising on the evening of Friday, August 24 at Tavistock College.
This will be the second of a three part series of track and field meetings under the heading of 'QUADall' — four track and field events to choose from which are open to all age groups from 8 years upwards. Participants can choose three of the events on offer which include sprint and middle distance races and throwing and jumping events.
The younger age athletes will race across 150 and 600 metres while the older entrants can do 200 and 800 metres. The jumping event will be high jump and the throwers will hurl the javelin (or Vortex Howler for the U11s).
Although the competition will feature existing athletes from Tavistock and other local clubs this is an open meeting and newcomers of every age above eight are welcome to come and have a go.
Club chairman Allan Herdman, who is organising the event, said: 'The club will help you, particularly with the more technical throwing and jumping events.
'The emphasis is on giving people the opportunity to take part, perhaps for the first time.
'There will be many who have been inspired by the Olympics. Who knows, we might unearth the next Jessica Ennis or Mo Farah right here in Tavistock!'
The doors open for the event at the track at Tavistock College at 5pm with competition starting at 6pm.

The event is also included in a wider initiative aimed at getting people to participate in sport, whether as athletes or volunteers.
