ON the only damp and dismal day of last week, Whitchurch Wayfarers Cricket Club hosted the Tavistock Area Primary Schools Cricket Festival.
St Andrews, Buckland Monachorum, emerged as the outright winners of the large schools competition, beating Horrabridge, Tavistock and Bere Alston decisively to take the trophy donated by the Active Villages Project.
Some excellent cricket was played by all the youngsters taking part and it is good to see that village cricket clubs have talent to call on from their local schools.
The small schools competition was much closer with a three way tie between Lady Modiford's, Princetown and Milton Abbot.
With the weather closing in it was decided to split the teams on runs made during their games between each other. This gave the medals to Lady Modiford's, Walkhampton.
Despite the constant drizzle and one heavy shower a good time was had by all and everyone went back to their schools happy and hopefully thinking about playing cricket further over the summer months.
