Exe ladies’ fourths 4
Okehampton ladies’ seconds 2
THERE was only a point between Exe and Oke at the start of the game for third position in the league.
To begin with the pressure was mostly on Okehampton’s defence with Exe forcing numerous attacks on goal which led to the home side being two goals up after the first half. However, Oke goalkeeper Lucy Wiseman made some excellent saves to prevent further goals from being scored.
Despite gallant efforts by Anna Speak, Emma Wiseman and Zoe Curtis to dribble the ball at pace up the wings, keeping play wide, the Exe defence was at the ready every time, preventing any opportunity to level the score.
During the second half sweeper Sandy Douglas and Oke player of the match centre Hannah Hawes, put the pressure on the home team’s midfield — pushing the ball further up the pitch to the midfielders Viv Weatherington and Tilly Dixon, who fed forwards Jess Medland, Ellie Shalyer and Alex Collins; they had a few shots on goal but these were saved by the Exe keeper.
Okehampton, somehow, lost their drive and usual passion to fight back and by the end of the match Exe’s attackers had scored two more goals.
