IN the Tavistock Snooker League Conservative Z were beaten 4-1 by a ruthlessly efficient West Devon B.

The game, however, was far from a stroll in the park for the B team as the individual frame scores would show and the resulting five black ball games testify. Gilchrist faced Jankowski in the first frame and looked to be beaten as they approached the finishing line. Gilchrist though refused to be beaten and in a remarkable display of potting finished off the colours with a 22 clearance to take the frame.

Symons for Con Z approached the table brimming with confidence but John Rich matched him shot for shot and eventually took the frame in another black ball thriller. Fitzsimmons for the Con Z faced Hoar with the same results, nip and tuck all the way only to lose at the death in yet another black ball game.

Steve Hall managed the Con Z's only win against George Toland in one of the tightest frames of the evening, 48-47. Unfortunately, an unforced error, which the ref failed to spot but Toland held his hands up to, probably tipped the balance in favour of Hall.

Finally, Dodd took to the table in defiant mood in an effort to salvage something for the Con Zs but West Devon B's Smith's steely determination matched Dodd all the way and eventually sealed the Con Z's fate.

West Devon A kept their title hopes alive with a sound 3-2 win over third place Conservative B.

Con B had their chances in the first frame, but it was West Devon's Morris who eventually overcame Lillicrap in a rather turgid affair. In complete contrast the second frame was lit up by some rock solid potting by WD A's Taylor to overcome Con's Monk with a super 27 break helping him on his way. Con B hit back next frame with a sublime 40 break from Dent to beat Emptage. The game was secured next frame with West Devon A's Heathman completely dominating a rather tame McKechnie.

Con B still had something special to contribute in the final frame though as Evans played an absolute 'blinder' to totally outclass arguably the league's best player Kevin Rich. With two early breaks of 29 and 22, Rich had no answer to a dominating display of snooker from Evans to shatter his 100 per cent record.
