Western Counties West

Penryn 31

TAVISTOCK gained their third home victory in a row against a powerful Penryn side to leapfrog St Ives at the base of the Western Counties West Table.

Tavistock captain Doug Lloyd is already planning ahead for next season now this one is dead and buried – and said results like this hint at better times to come.

It needs a rugby miracle to save Tavistock from relegation now as they are nine points adrift with 10 to play for.

Tavistock need to beat Tiverton (third) and champions Teignmouth to get past Torquay to safety – and hope the Torbay side do not take two points from their final games against Kingsbridge and Okehampton.

Dan Luffman, Luke Northmore and Chad Brading were the first half try scorers with Ollie Wheeldon putting over two conversions in the absence of Richard Goldsby-West.

Northmore, Luffman and Murphy notched in the second half as Tavistock overturned a 21-19 interval deficit to win the game.
