Western Counties West
St Austell 73
Tavistock 3
TAVISTOCK travelled to St Austell with a team severely depleted of main stream players due to injury or not being available.
Players from the second team stepped up and the whole team played their best against a team in the top half of the league on a heavy pitch.
St Austell kicked off and within three minutes Tavistock were penalised for being off side and St Austell kicked the penalty to post the first score on the board.
Tavistock won a penalty for a St Austell player not rolling away and Richard West was within kicking distance of the post and took the points.
In the first 20 minutes Tavistock put up a great effect but continuous pressing from St Austell eventually opened the flood gates and the tries kept rolling in; they were all duly converted.
Unfortunately for Tavistock there were injuries which resulted with a front row forward being carried off the pitch.
In the second half there was another injury replacement for the forwards before the game was halted 15 minutes into the half with a serious injury to the front row replacement, who went down in a scrum with a neck injury. He was taken to hospital. Play resumed with non contested scrums.
St Austell went on to score three more tries.
n This Saturday Tavistock are away to Torquay.
