South West one

Plymouth University B 2

THIS was a well earned and needed result for Tavistock against a strong and quick University side.

The home side got off to the best start when a deft touch from captain Orman put the hosts ahead within the first few minutes.

Tavistock’s structure was their strength and this managed to contain the Uni side, who were quick around the pitch and attacking in mind set.

Goals from Walker and Tom Honey gave the home side the lead they deserved, but the Uni were dangerous on the break and brought themselves back into it from a poor clearance and the ball was slotted home from close range.

Tavistock were fighting for every ball, and the back line of Phil Honey, Staig, Hanson and Stanyer were in control. With added direction from Grahame the home team were playing some solid hockey.

The Tavistock midfield was dominating the game and the students were chasing shadows when trying to get the ball off Tom Honey. Elliott was linking well and Daniels, as always, was a threat in the opposition half.

With rolling substitutes a plenty, Tavistock kept the momentum and stayed with the tempo of the game. Stead, Donnelly and Venton all added greater depth to the game.

More goals came with two classic strikes from Richards and Honey took his second coming from a great move and perfect pass from Walker.

The University side kept on until the end and managed to get a second with a fine and skilful run, but these were well earned points, which keep Tavistock at the top of the division.
