Yeovil and Sherborne 4

Tavistock firsts 3

TAVISTOCK men’s first hockey team travelled to Yeovil knowing they were in for a tough game as their hosts were unbeaten at home this season.

The Reds went with a strong squad despite the unavailability of Richards, Blonden and captain Honey.

With two goals from the prolific Mark Forshaw either side of a fine backhand goal from Dom Stanbury, Tavistock went into the half time break with a 3-2 lead. The score was a fair reflection of the first 35 minutes.

Both sides continued to pass the ball with intent and purpose in the second half but the respective back lines were having the edge over the opposing attackers and neither team could add to their first half goal tally until midway through the half when the home side reacted first to a loose ball in the D and finished from close range to bring the scores level.

With just seven minutes left the home side once again found the back of the Tavistock goal, this time from a smart strike on the turn from a Yeovil forward.

The win takes Yeovil level on points with Tavistock, North Somerset and also Exeter Univeristy, who failed to pick up any points away at Plympton Grammar School Old Boys.

The results also see Plymouth Marjons HC and Teign move just one point behind the four sides at the top of the league.
