Tavistock firsts v Barton

TAVISTOCK firsts entertained league leaders, Barton, on Saturday. Barton batted first with Hele on 53 and Needham with 27 the main contributors.

Sean Cleave, with 3-49, and Charlie Barriball with 3-35 were the best of the bowlers. Their score of 198- 9 was adequate but Tavistock again had a bad start, losing wickets early on. Fifteen year-old James White showed how it should be done with a superb 76 and, along with Matt Witcher, returning to the club, with 48, had a match winning stand, ensuring Tavistock’s victory by three wickets.

Tavistock seconds v Plympton thirds

THE Tavistock second team travelled to Gunnislake to take on Plympton thirds knowing a win was needed to stop the recent run of defeats.

Putting the opposition in, Tavistock opening bowlers soon made inroads.

Matt Puttock and Marc Lewis took early wickets from which Plympton never recovered. Lewis took 4-21 in nine overs, while Puttock backed up his partner with 2-20.

Gauler and Edlmann then took up the mantle and, with 4 wickets for 20 between them, Plympton were bowled out for 84.

Watson and Edlmann soon made light of the target. The former fell at 66, but Richard Edlmann with 38 not-out ensured the target was met with little fuss, giving Tavistock a win by nine wickets and 20 points.
