LEWDOWN Cricket Club is hoping to go from strength to strength as both first and second XIs prepare to do battle in their respective A division leagues.

The firsts remained in their league with a superb finish to the season which saw them steer clear of relegation at the expense of local rivals Tavistock.

They welcome star player Johan Wessels back from South Africa and Tallan Burns takes the helm as the new skipper this season.

After the conclusion of the 2015 season the seconds won promotion in a tense inter county play off against Braunton. They play in the Devon Second XI A league for the first time. Lewdown smashed the best score last season of 438 and captain Steve Metherell is looking forward to the new challenge.

Lewdown thirds again feature in the E West division and play at Lydford with a mixture of youth and experience, led by Grahame Horn.

The club also fielded evening sides which won the league cup and were joint winners of the Tamar Evening league. They were knocked out of the Devon 20/20 stages by Plymouth.

The junior sides performed well with the U11s winning their cup and were runners up in their league.

Ex-England bowler Peter Lever helps coach both the senior and junior sides.
