Devon 2nds B West

Tavistock 2nds v Babbacombe 2nds

TAVISTOCK visited league leaders Babbacombe with a weakened side, due to unavailability of leading players.

Winning the toss, captain Andy Gauler chose to field, hoping his hugely successful opening bowling attack of Puttock and Lewis could repeat the success of previous weeks.

However, Babbacombe openers Mabbot and Reading had other ideas and saw off the new ball attack, putting on 93 for the first wicket, ensuring a likely large total.

Young Will Scott-Munden kept the runs down with nine overs for 24 and at the other end, Chris Hutchins began to make in-roads into the batting line-up.

Hutchins bowled a devastating spell taking seven wickets in his nine overs for 42 runs, causing Babbacombe to slump to 174 all out, with Mark Lewis finishing off the tail.

Tavistock, short of one or two batsmen, needed a good start but unfortunately lost early wickets. Webber with 21, Ben Russell with 19 and Matt Puttock with 32, all got starts but failed to go on.

Wickets fell regularly with Passmore takng five and Williams three, leaving Tavistock a disappointing 105 all out, collecting seven points and a defeat by 69 runs.

Tavistock 2nds v Plympton 3rds

A RAIN interrupted game between these teams resulted in a thrilling tie with the pendulum of the game swinging both ways in dramatic last overs.

Plympton batted first, with Jason Degg top scoring with 43, they managed 122 - 7 in 32 overs. Andy Gauler and Will Scott-Munden were the pick of the bowlers with two wickets each. Jack Bellamy’s 1-16 in his five overs was a good effort.

Tavistock’s reply began disastrously with four wickets going down for eight runs. Phil Stephens and Marc Webber repaired the damage, and at 90 - 4 Tavistock looked to be cruising, but a collapse left the game delicately poised and the seven runs in the final over failed to be achieved when Jack Bellamy was bowled off the final ball with only one run required.

An exciting game resulting in the tie, which leaves Tavistock second in the table.
