FIVE of Tavistock Athletic Club juniors went to the Cornish County Championships at Par on Saturday and came back with a magnificent haul of five silver medals and three golds.

Tilly McDowell came second for silver in the under 13 girls' 1,500m with a superb 5 minutes 33.2 seconds. In the under 15 boys, Josh Davies captured a trio of medals with a great days work. He picked up a silver in the 100m with 12.2secs (same as the winners time), gold in the 200m with 24.8secs (championship best performance) and silver in the 300m with 38.9 secs.

Lee Shipton picked up a well deserved silver for all the hard work he has put in training in the shot putt with 5.76 metres. Older brother Charlie Shipton was the only Tavistock athlete in the under 17's and he also picked a silver medal in the throws – but this time with a personal best hammer throw of 31.02 metres.

To add to Tavistock's tally, Sam Lane De Courtin won a brace of golds in the U20 and senior mens races. He won the 800m in 1 minute 57.2 seconds and the 1,500m in 4.10.4.
