COTEHELE Quay Gig Club are celebrating a great start to the season.
The club attended the Plastic Gig Champion-ships organised by Pendeen Gig Club in Cornwall. All race categories were entered by Cotehele apart from the Under 14s.
The race conditions were good with flat water which suited them but the race course was challenging. It was a sprint race in a straight line which meant rowing at full pressure for the whole course.
Every crew performed well and it was great experience ahead of the Isles of Scilly races, particularly for those newer rowers that have not raced competitively before.
Result: Juniors, second; ladies' B third; men's B seventh; ladies' A third; men's A, fourth; ladies' veterans, fourth and men's veterans, first which meant Cotehele came first overall out of 14 clubs. The men's veterans result was particularly impressive as number four rower's stretcher came out of position at the start of the race and he had to row the whole race without a stretcher.
The club was delighted to win the trophy for the best performing club and are in proud possession of a fine wooden pig!
Cotehele Quay Gig Club is entering 10 crews in the forthcoming Isles of Scilly World Gig Championships in three weeks time.
