Okehampton Ladies 4

Truro Ladies 1

THE Okehampton hockey ladies were prepared for a tough league match against a physical Truro team.

The game was played at a fast and furious pace from the start with Truro passing the ball quickly between their attackers forcing Oke to defend deep in their own half.

The Columbines soon settled into the tempo of the match and produced some penetrating moves from their attackers Jo Moppett and Kim Davey.

It was a half of exciting end-to-end hockey with both teams narrowly missing goal scoring chances.

A dramatic save from Oke keeper Shannon Osman led to Truro being awarded a penalty flick. Osman kept her cool and produced an athletic, reflex save to stop Truro from converting the flick into a goal.

Minutes before half time Truro blasted their way through the home defensive line to give them a 1-0 lead at half-time.

Straight from the whistle the Columbines attacked with Jo Moppett drawing the Truro defence before passing to Oke captain Lesley Bingham, unmarked in front of goal, coolly slotted the ball into the net to equalise.

Within minutes of the restart player of the match Amanda Sim won the ball in the Oke half and put a powerful pass onto the stick of Jo Moppett; she sped down the pitch leaving the Truro players flat-footed and with only the goalie to beat made no mistake, hammering the ball into the back of the net.

Moppett was now on a roll and she scored Oke's third goal from the narrowest of angles just shaving the inside of the post and rattling the back board. Soon after Moppett used her skill and close ball control to wrong foot the Truro defence and claim her hat-trick.

Truro are a determined side and fought back strongly forcing disciplined marking from the Okehampton defenders and some decisive saves from their keeper to ensure the score line remained 4-1..
