ASHMOOR LADIES 1

OKEHAMPTON LADIES’ FIRSTS 6

ON a wet and windy evening, Okehampton travelled to Totnes to face Ashmoor under lights, hoping for another good win to cement their position at the top of the league.

The visitors took their time to settle and get into the game. Good passing developed between midfielders Lucy Wiseman and Molly Marvin who worked the ball up the pitch using both their speed and passing to get round the Ashmoor players.

Oke defenders Nicky Pedrick, Sophie Whiteley, Amanda Sim and player of the match, Helen Dalton, pushed high to try and press the ball forward but despite several opportunities, Okehampton just could not find the back of the net and the teams went into the half time break 0-0.

A quick pep talk from captain Sophie Whiteley meant that Okehampton returned to pitch meaning business. This soon showed after a short corner was awarded and a cross from Hannah Whiteley was deflected into the goal by an Ashmoor defender, opening the score line.

This was quickly followed by Lesley Bingham reverse hitting a rebound onto the backboard, pushing the score line to 2-0. Okehampton were now on the up and with a spring in their heels, ably helped by the fireworks going off all around, the goals began to come thick and fast.

Emily Rowlands made several good runs down the wing allowing a cross into the D to be slotted in by Bingham after a scramble on the goal line. Elly Jenkins worked tirelessly to create goal scoring opportunities and quick passing between her and Hannah Gibbons saw a hit across the goal mouth be slotted in behind the keeper by Hannah Whiteley bringing the score up to 4-0.

A quick break from Ashmoor caught keeper Alice Wiseman off guard and after a hit from outside the D, a loose ball slipped past Wiseman, giving the home team a reason to celebrate.

Okehampton were not deterred and soon answered this threat with another goal from Whiteley, making her hat trick, and a sharp strike from Lucy Wiseman from the top of a short corner finished the game with a bang.
