South divisionPLYMOUTH MARJONS’ LADIES 5OKEHAMKPTON LADIES’ FIRSTS 5OKEHAMPTON Ladies’ first team headed to Plymouth on Saturday for an early pushback, for what proved to be a tight fought match.
Okehampton started strongly with some fantastic forward pressure and a quick goal from Amy Taylor. Taylor was quick to secure her second goal, a beautiful tight angle strike, following a great lead run onto the backline.
Marjons then managed to equalise, but Okehampton were able to once again get ahead, with a successful, well worked penalty corner, on the half time whistle.
Claire Grubb was able to find the backboard early in the second half and Kim McGrattan quickly followed suit with a great team short corner. Okehampton were now leading 5-2 and seemingly in control of the game. However, Marjons dug deep and applied some great pressure on Okehampton’s defence. They were able to draw level With Okehampton with ten minutes to go.
The team pulled together to hold off the pressure and were unlucky not to find the backboard during the last few minutes of the game.
The player of the match went to Nicky Strawbridge and there was some great linking work from McGrattan and Lucy Wiseman in Midfield.
The work rate from every member of the team was high and they felt it was a real shame they could not leave with a win.
