ALWAYS a popular event is the Tavistock club captain's charity day and this year was no exception when 69 teams took part. 

Club captain Richard Smith was delighted with the turnout and the support members gave to his chosen charity for the year — CHICKS (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids). 

Scoring was tight but the team of Alan Gawman and Kenny MacKenzie took the honours with 43 pts on countback from Adam Waddle and Luke Wakeley.  In third place was Mike Apps and Rod Hillman with 42 pts on countback from Graham Ruth and Mike Swift and Jon and Jane Hoskin. 

The best ladies pair were Bev Ruth and Lyn Swift with 36 pts and the best mixed pair were Rob and Val Jarman with 42 pts. 

Alan and Kenny also won the Barry Luckham Trophy for the top winning pair.

The club captain said: 'My grateful thanks to all those who helped to make this such a successful day.

'To date we have raised over £9,000 for this very worthwhile cause.' 

Another popular event is the 4BBB team open event where, once again, scoring was tight at the top. 

Scoring an excellent 86 pts were the team of John and Shirley Persey and Doug and Sally Brankin from Bude and North Cornwall.  The Tavistock team of Alan and Nicky Gawman and George Gawman and Lyn Swift were second with 85 pts.  Third were Barry and Penny Howson (Staddon) and Graham and Fran Horton (Tavistock) with 84 pts.  Fourth were the Tavistock team of Ken and Sybil Cole and Keith and Marion Stenhouse with 82 pts and in fifth place, also from Tavistock, were Gareth and Wendy George and Max Clarke and Belinda McSherry. 

Best front nine — Ian and Fiona Parsons and Ken and Karen Hough (Teignmouth and Torquay) 41 pts.  Best back nine — Peter McMahon and Roma McMahon and Brian Williams and Sue Stewart 44 pts.  Nearest the pin — Mike Trevena (Tavistock) and Nearest the pin for ladies — Karen Hough (Torquay).

In the Grandmother's Cup and medal first in division 1 — Belinda McSherry nett 74,  second Wendy George nett 75 and third Roma McMahon nett 79. 

Jenny Kay with a nett 72 was first in division 2, second Marion Stenhouse nett 75 on countback from Gill Millichamp, Carolyn Crawford, Alison West and Peggy Burge.  Winner of the Grandmother's Cup was Carolyn Crawford.
