A CHARITY golf day hosted by the Ashbury Hotel and organised by Okehampton Rotary has raised nearly £3,500 for charity. The weather was perfect for a round of golf earlier this month with dry and bright conditions. 36 teams of two played 18 holes on the Kigbeare course. Local businesses, individuals and other Rotary clubs in the region entered the well-spirited event. The ladies of the Inner Wheel provided refreshments for the players halfway around the course. Jeffery and Pengelly entered two teams, and both had superb days, with Lee Pengelly and Arnie Searle claiming victory, with Eric Pengelly and Gary Carey taking third place. The Nomads team finished in second. A variety of prizes were given out including tee shot nearest the pin, straightest drive and other categories. Rotary president Alan Roberton expressed his thanks to everyone who attended, Rotarians Sarah Watts and Russ Thomas for organising the event, the owners of the Ashbury Hotel and the hotel and ground staff for providing the facilities and accommodating the players so well. The money raised will be used to support Okehampton Rotary's work with young people in the Okehampton area.
