CHAOS Gym's champion team of Muay Thai boxers from Okehampton have had more success.
Christi Brereton (21), Sammy-Jo Luxton (14) and Chantelle Tippett (12) have been selected to be a part of the IFMA World Games in Malaysia in May.
The International Federation of Muay Thai are expecting 2000 athletes to compete from 100 different countries. They anticipate 10,000 people per day will spectate and attend the opening ceremony.
The girls competed all last year in the UKMF (United Kingdom Muay Thai Federation) Super League to earn their place on the UK Team and finally got the news that they had been selected last week.
Although the International Olympic Committee will be there, Muay Thai boxing has yet to be selected as an Olympic sport. As a result the girls do not qualify for financial support from all the large funding providers such as Sport England and UK Sport.
The UKMF are so proud of Chaos Gym as it is almost unheard of to have so many athletes selected from just one gym.
The girls now need to raise funds to pay for flights and accommodation. They are frantically fundraising with sponsored kickathons, curry and quiz nights, draws to be named on the girls T-shirts to name just a few.
This is such an achievement for such a small town in West Devon.
If you would like to get behind these girls and send them to Malaysia contact Lisa Tippett by email on [email protected]">[email protected] or Steve Pender on 07811552906.
