CHANTEL Whiting made history last weekend by travelling up to Manchester to box in the UK first ever All Female Winter Box Cup.

The Tavistock fighter, who boxes out of Intense Boxing Club in Plymouth, weighed in on Friday evening at 49kg. There were a lot of boxers in her weight category who pulled out but the draw was made and Chantel was up against a top boxer from Bletchley ABC Milton Keynes. Chantel knew when Saturday came round she had to be fully focused and on her game.

She came out of the first round strongly, using her jab well, to control her opponent, getting stronger as the rounds went on and started to dominate all the rounds.

Chantel won the final by unanimous  decision before five judges and proudly brought home to West Devon the Winter Box Cup gold medal.

Her coaches from Intense said: ‘We could not be any prouder to have such a great talent at our club. Chantel works so hard, she is always first in and last to leave the gym. She is very focused and dedicated. She has a very bright future within the sport.’

Chantel has had a very successful year by winning the National Championships, GB Three Nation Championships representing England out in Ireland and Scotland, winning gold both times. Now she has finished the year off with gold in the the first ever Winter Box Cup. Quite an achievement at a young age of 16.

Her sporting future is certainly looking bright with the 2024 France Summer Olympics in sight.

Chantel is now going to have a well deserved break and start back up again on January 1 to get ready for 2019 National Championships.

Chantel expressed a huge thanks for everyones support, to her coaches and sponsors and said that her success would not be possible without  such a great team.
