TAVISTOCK made the journey to top of the league, Budleigh Salterton determined to turn around a 2-1 home defeat at the beginning of the season.

The match started positively for Tavistock and 20 minutes into the first half the visitors were firmly in control, Quick thinking by Donna Hone played in Donna Weeks who split the defence for Sarah Martin to rifle a left footed shot past the oncoming home keeper.

When Budleigh Salterton did break the Tavistock defence of Tania Coker, Rebecca McMullin, Carleigh Bammens and Laura Phillip, they stood firm and dealt cooly with Budleigh's attack.

In the second half Budleigh Salterton fought back hard but Tavistock soaked up any pressure with Lauren Schuttkacker making some great saves. Robyn Hammond worked tirelessly in the centre and great runs were made by Kirsty Jones and Donna Hone on the wings. Becky Turner made a lively debut using her speed to effect while Gemma Small worked hard to win the ball. Tavistock doubled their lead midway through the half with a long range effort from Sarah Blowey after fancy footwork from Laura Phillip.

A goal from Budleigh Salterton in the last five minutes made for a tense conclusion but Tavistock held on for a superb win.
