WHAT should have been a routine win for 'run away' leaders Conservative A in the Tavistock Snooker League turned out to be far from it as mid table West Devon B produced a sublime performance to complete the biggest giant killing of the season.
There was no sign of what was to come in the early stages as Con A went into a predictable 2 – 0 lead. Carruthers rode his luck at times but in the end some strong potting was too much for Bath. Longden made it 2-0 for Con A with a hard fought win over a tenacious Rich (junior), needing to pot a good blue and pink.
From there on it was all West Devon, starting with Hoare who put a 'scratchy' start behind him to finish the stronger as he ousted Con A's Bell.
Rich (senior) produced one of his free flowing displays of flamboyant snooker to condemn Con A's Evans to a rare defeat to bring the game all square.
The deciding frame saw a focused Gilchrist produce one of his best displays of the season to beat Con A's Folley in a superbly controlled frame of snooker and with this a well deserved and shock win for West Devon.
The match between West Devon C and Conservative C was a runaway success for West Devon as they deservedly notched up their first ever 5-0 win, and with it a place in the top three of the table.
The first frame was a scrappy affair which saw WDC's Williams run out a winner against Jago (junior) by a comfortable margin.
Up stepped Jago (senior), but he was always playing catch-up, finally falling to some good potting by Elliott to make it 2-0 for West Devon C.
There then followed a 'comedy of errors' by Con C's Neale, which saw Grigg take advantage and make it three for West Devon.
Hodge for West Devon gave Con C's Bellamy a fine demonstration of potting while the final frame between Con'C s Hoare and WDC's Pinkney was a close fought affair with Pinkney finally making it a superb 5-0 win for West Devon.
