Lockie Cup
Liskeard second 10
Tavistock second 48
TAVISTOCK ran out convincing winners in this quarter final match. The visitors welcomed back winger Ben Hadfield for his first game since breaking his wrist earlier in the season and he scored the first try after seven minutes. Veteran number 8, Tom Dawe barged his way over for the second try a few minutes later.
Tavistock then failed to control the restart and the home side took advantage of some hesitancy in the visitors' defence, to score a soft try. Tavistock enjoyed most of the possession for the remainder of the half and despite missing several scoring opportunities, added further tries from centre Simon Braithwaite and fly half Rich West. West booted two conversions and a penalty to bring the score to 29-5 at halftime.
The visitors continued to dominate after the interval and a few minutes into the half, a fine break by flanker Dan Oner, found veteran lock Paul Edwards in support, to score a vintage try. Scrum half Tim Pope added another try midway through the half and Ben Hadfield added his second try soon after. West kicked two more conversions.
Liskeard never gave up and came more into the game in the final 20 minutes and scored the last try of the game to make it 48-10 to Tavistock.
The Tavistock forwards worked hard all afternoon and never let their opponents get the upper hand, with Tom Dawe having an outstanding game. Dan Oner made a number of good breaks and the home side struggled to cope with his pace. Fly half West controlled his backline effectively while centre Doug Lloyd and wing Ben Hadfield also had fine games.
