ANDY Cowden, the northernmost member of the Bere Alston Trekkers, this weekend completed the Potters half marathon in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.

He completed it in a superb time of 1 hour 52 minutes 55 seconds he finished 15th out of 43 in his age group.

While he was participating on one half marathon away from Bere Alston, Macia Macey also completed a half marathon over the weekend returning to Snowdonia for the Trail Half Marathon Wales. This is a tough trail course through woodland along a variety of tracks amid stunning scenery. Marcia completed the course in 2.37.33

Closer to home, BATs were also racing in another tough trail run, the Burrator Horseshoe which is held each year on Meavy Oak Fair day and attracted runners from across the country.

The race takes in six miles of Moorland running, taking in the steep climbs to the summit of Sheeps’ Tor. This is rewarded with the view across West Devon, South East Cornwall and out over Plymouth Sound. After the half way point, adjacent to Gutter Tor, the route is mostly downhill to the finish, crossing Ringmoor Down and passing Marchant’s Cross.

The runners are rewarded by the foot and leg cooling splash through the Meavy Ford before crossing the line on the Village Green.
