THE last Wednesday of each month sees members of Bere Alston Trekkers (Bats) get together for a run, finished off with a cup of tea and cake baked by the club chair, Dotty King, to give an opportunity for members to catch up with each other and swap stories on the month's events.
The session in March was made even more special as club members were issued with the long awaited new kit, the club hoodies. In keeping with club colours, the hoodies are bright red with the club name emblazoned across the back and embroidered on the front. The hoodies were subsidised through funds raised by the clubs Bats Big Breakfast held earlier in the year.
The last run of the month also sees the athlete of the month awards given and for March the female award went to Sarah Burns for her superb effort with three marathons in three days and finishing first overall, and the male award went to Mike Chipperfield for his efforts in the Grizzly and the Bideford and Tavistock half marathons.
Bats will be running next this weekend in the Taunton full and half marathon.
The club has sessions most evenings of the week now which are open to all and can be found at: http://www.berealstontrekkers.btck.co.uk/">www.berealstontrekkers.btck.co.uk/
