A TEAM of nine Bere Alston Trekkers headed to Plymstock to compete in the Plymstock Road Runners’ Muddy Duck 10k which used to be known at the Duckpond race.

The course is two laps around Radford Park starting and finishing at Oreston Academy. The terrain is varied with several water crossings.

Team Bat finished in the following times: Andrew Bowden 50 minutes 01 seconds; Julie Page 55.46, Martin Head 56.59, Lisa Birch 59.45, Alison Greaves 59.45, Mel Greaves 1 hour 03 minutes 01 seconds, Laura Hogan 1.03.09, Fiona Maddock 1.06.09 and Hilary Head 1.17.41

A BAT was also active in the Ham and Lyme 50km. Last week end, lone BAT Murray Turner took on the trial race which was a scenic, yet testing, 50km (32mile). Murray finished in a time of just more than six hours, a personal best from last year by 1.5hrs.

This race starts in Ham County Park in Somerset and follows the Liberty Trail south to the coast in Lyme Regis in Dorset.

The Liberty Trail traces the route of the Monmouth Revolution of 1685, an agricultural protest at poor conditions and low pay. It was a multi terrain route and very scenic in parts; taking in vantage points such as Lamberts Castle, which usually commands stunning panoramic views of the Dorset countryside.

Unfortunately for the runners, despite very humid and warm conditions, there was also low cloud and mist, and the views for much of the day were obscured. Despite that it was a lovely event, well organised, with a stunningly designed medal for all finishers.
