IT has been another busy weekend for Bere Alston Trekkers who have been running far and wide.

Their biggest event was the Bolton Ironman.  The day began with an early 6am 2.4 mile swim at Pennington Flash country park in Wigan, Lancashire.  Competitors then embarked on a 112-mile, three-loop journey from Pennington Flash and onto the beautiful Lancashire countryside.

The bike course includes the infamous Sheep House Hill where spectators can get up close with the athletes in true Tour de France style. The event finishes with a  26.2 mile run begins at T2 in Rivington and athletes head into Bolton town centre, where they complete three loops of a circuit before finishing in Victoria Square in the shadow of the Albert Hall.

Taking part in this event was BAT Sarah Morwood who finished in an overall time of 10hr 56mins 03secs — swim 1.03.45, bike 6.09.37 and run 3.37.27.  Sarah finished first in her age group, fifth woman and 130th overall beating at least 1,300 men.

Bats congratulate Sarah's efforts who continues to train and compete to raise money for Shelter Box.

The second event of the weekend was the Totnes 10k which is a scenic route alongside the beautiful River Dart, on footpaths and bridle paths with a challenging hill in the latter stages.

The two Bats taking part made light work of the hill with both running a distance personal best.  Rob Gualtieri ran especially well to run under the hour shaving more than four minutes of his time with Phil King a minute quicker.

At the Indian Queen's half marathon in Cornwall Bats took part in a 'Mr and Mrs' event.

The route is undulating and predominantly rural. Apart from the first and last miles the race is run over the countryside, five miles of which is on trails.

First lady Bat home, fourth female overall and second in her age group was Rebecca Mingo and first male home was Dave Adams who was followed two seconds later by Mike Smith who ran a distance personal best. Also running well were Pam Adams and Heather Smith.
