AFTER the start of the Tavy 7 mile race on October 26, the Tavy 1.5 run will take place on the grassy tracks on Plasterdown using the start and finish for the main race. Although it will be half term, the organisers, Tavistock Athletic Club, hope that lots of primary schools in the area will put up teams to represent their school and compete for the Tavy 7 Cup. Teams will consist of two boys and two girls with the team with the lowest aggregate places winning. Last year it was Kelly (now Mount Kelly) Prep which narrowly beat St Peter's School. Invitations to compete will be sent to individual schools in the area, but the competition is open to all comers — contact Keith Bowles on 01822 613607 if you would like your school to compete. The run is also a Fun Run, and is open to everyone with an entry fee of £3. All finishers will receive a medal, and the first three teams in the Tavy Cup will also receive keepsakes. TAC hopes that up to 500 runners will take part in the main race so it is now gearing up to organise the race which starts and finishes the far side of Plasterdown from Tavistock. It will be signed from the bottom of Down Road, Tavistock, the postcode being PL19 8DD. This is the biggest mass participation event in the area and spectators are welcome with the best vantage points being on Plasterdown. The main sponsor is Gibbs Kirby estate agents of Market Road, Tavistock and entry forms can be obtained from them and Active Co. in Duke Street, Tavistock.
