South West two
East Devon C 0
Tavistock A 2
THIS excellent away result clinched the league title for Tavistock A. Missing some key players, Tavistock travelled with the bare 11 to face a team that beat them just after Christmas.
This was a major team performance, with everybody raising their game to match the importance of the result.
Tavistock started the brighter and as usual took the game right at East Devon. Elliott always looking dangerous, along with Walker and the commanding Orman were causing problems in the home D, but were unable to get the final touch.
Anning stepped up to centre mid and controlled the game and with his distribution to Honey was creating further space and problems for East Devon.
The home side did break on occasions but this was managed with confidence by MacDougal, who marshalled the back line of Tosdevin, Mason and Glanville with control. As usual, Pugsley was strong in goal and saved a few attempts that managed to keep the score at nil, nil at half time.
The second half was a different story, with Tavistock’s confidence and belief growing.
The game and pressure was one way and a goal was scored, but the umpire had already blown for a penalty corner.
Not to be disappointed, Tavistock continued to mount pressure and the short corner was hammered into the home sides goal by Orman. Tavistock could feel the win was in their grasp and parked themselves in the home sides half. With pressure mounting via, Anning, Campbell and Honey, the forwards were running riot.
A resulting short corner was again driven low to the backboard by Orman to clinch the game and seal a great team performance and the deserved champions status.
