TWO Tavistock girls U18s rugby players, who both attend Duchy College in Stoke Climsland, have high hopes of being part of England Colleges rugby team. This month they travelled to Bath as part of the South West England Colleges team.

Alice Upcott, from Gunnislake, and her friend Katy Scorer, from Yelverton, both 17 and studying the extended Diploma in Sport at Duchy, have also represented Devon and the South West.

Course manager Darren Evans said: 'A big well done to Alice and Katy. The girls today received news that they have made the final squad for the girls South West Colleges rugby squad.'

Katy has played rugby for eight years and Alice for six years, both in their preferred positions — second row.

Alice said: 'We had the opportunity to get a guided tour of Bath's club and met some players. In the evening we played against Bath Academy, with us both in the starting line up.'

They had a superb game helping the South West England Colleges beat Bath Academy 78-5.

Sports development officer Gary Jeffrey said Both Katy and Alice were on the starting line up at the game in Bath and played exceptionally well.

They will now join the squad Bath Univeristy at the end of March to play in the British Colleges sport national finals.
