TAVISTOCK runner Adam Holland took part in the Hell of a Hill five marathons in five days and coming first in all five days.
Organisers of the Lancashire race claim ‘it is the toughest marathons in five days’, with 5,000 feet plus of elevation gain each day, 26.2 miles of tough stone and muddy trails — six laps over the mighty Rivington Pike in the West Pennine Moors each day.
Adam, who is originally from Tavistock and now lives in the Midlands, was the only runner that managed to run every day under four hours. His times: day one, first in 3 hours 29 minutes 18 seconds. Day two, first, in 3.44.26. Day three, first in 3.36.47.
Day four, first in 3.27.54 and day five, first in 3.48.08.
Overall place and time: first in 18.06.33, average time over five days, 3.37.18.
After four competitive days Adam started the fifth with a tight chest and a sore left arm.
He said: ‘As it was a Sunday there was a lot of people out and about, lots of dogs which I didn’t like when they jumped up on me as I’m running. There were also lots of mountain bikes and motorbikes on the course and horse riders were annoying as I had to slow down to walking pace.
‘I was able to see a hot air balloon in the distance. I’ve had a fantastic five days and congratulations and well done to everyone that took part in a single day or even managed to complete five in five.’
Next event for Adam in the Nottingham MoRun on November 30.
