TAVISTOCK’s ultra-athlete Adam Holland smashed the world record on Sunday for 10 marathons in 10 consecutive days at the Saxon Shore Seaside Marathon Series around the Kent coast.
In doing so the 29 year-old became the first person in the world ever to complete the 10 x 10 marathon challenge by running all 10 races in under three hours. Adam bettered the previous world record, held by Britain’s Rik Vercoe since 2013, by an astonishing 1 hour and 13 minutes.
This remarkable achievement is the last of a series of challenges in recent months all aimed at promoting a wider participation in running, while at the same time supporting worthwhile causes locally, nationally and internationally.
Over the past two months Adam has taken on a series of incredible challenges in support of the Aegis Trust and the Oasis Foundation. These challenges have seen him complete more than 1,300 miles, the equivalent of 50 marathons, much of the time accompanied by other runners who have been inspired and motivated by his outstanding example.
Adam, who now lives in the Midlands, is no newcomer to record breaking, when aged 23, he became the youngest person in Europe to complete 100 marathons – a record he still holds. He was also a member of the 12-man team who hold the world record for the greatest distance run on a treadmill over 48 hours.
Adam is driven not just by his athletic ambitions but also by his passion for encouraging others to become active and in doing so supporting worthwhile causes. As part of his ongoing effort to do just that he will be hosting his own event, the Newark Showground Christmas Challenge, on December 17/18.
Adam already has his sights set on further challenges and events for 2017.
