THIS year has been another excellent year for the juniors at Tavistock Tennis Club.

Club spokesperson Claudine Sparks said: ‘The number of members has increased in both the mini and junior section which is fantastic and also encouraging for our wonderful sport.’

Coaching sessions on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings with coach Rhys Dunford were thoroughly enjoyed by all. The club held its annual Junior Championship final in September after some hard fought round robin matches. The girls’ final was between Olivia Clark and Sienna Critchley. Olivia took the championship but praise must also go to Sienna for her determination and sportsmanship. Joe Rizk was the boys’ champion this year after defeating Lewis Cricthley in the closest junior final ever at the club.

The club’s biggest achievement this year was its participation in the Plymouth and District League with two teams from the club entered. Tavistock A team were runners up in division two and Tavistock B approached every match with enthusiasm and tenacity being rewarded with several wins.

Claudine added: ‘Well done to Joe, Olivia, Lewis, Lucy, Bertie, Zara, Will, Erin, Frankie, Sienna, Sam and Tom you were brilliant. Thank you also to Rhys and all the parents and friends who have given them so much support. Our juniors are the greatest ambassadors for the club and they are the future.’
