OKEHAMPTON A 5
PLYMOUTH UNIVERSITY B 0
TOP-of-the-table Okehampton A welcomed Plymouth University B looking to maintain their good form and their league position.
The young team started well, with Glanville and Morgan working the ball around in the midfield to the front three of Jones, Jecks and Hughes. After a few close attempts, Hughes made an excellent break through the middle and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to put Okehampton ahead.
Plymouth University appeared rattled by this early goal and the Okehampton front three pressed well to turn over the ball and win a short corner, which Rowlands fired past the defence to double the Oke lead. Okehampton stayed positive and a good run by Thomas led to Hughes at the top of the D, firing the ball past the keeper for his second of the game.
The university’s pace led to some promising attacks. However, their shots were expertly batted away by keeper Yelland, who preserved Okehampton’s clean sheet.
The visitors started the second half strongly, using their strong pace to test the defence of Lewis-Humbert, Bowles, Rodgers and Biaggi.
On the counter-attack, Rodgers made an excellent run down the right channel and played the ball off to Jecks, who beat the keeper to make the score 4-0.
Some superb play opened up the field for Rowlands who buried the ball in the back of the net for his second goal.
Okehampton gained three important points to remain at the top of the league.
