The BATs were out enjoying good weather over the weekend which provided ideal running conditions. Lady BAT Debbie Ashton ran the Tavistock Athletics Club’s 5Kool run, which is held on the third Saturday of each month from Tavistock College.

This 5k run starts and finishes on the athletics track with a trip out to the Meadows and back in between. Debbie was 52nd out of 73 runners, 3rd in her category, and claimed a distance personal best of 27 minutes 53 seconds.

On Sunday, Marcia Macey and Chris Anthony, accompanied with his four legged companion Bracken, took on the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Bodmin Half Marathon. Now in partnership with Bodmin Road Runners, the half marathon is an annual charity event which takes runners from Bodmin College into the grounds of the National Trust’s Lanhydrock Park for two hilly, multi-terrain laps offering stunning views. This year’s chosen charity was the Fire Fighters’ Charity, and proved to be a good early season test with 1,800ft of ascent, mostly on trails. Chris and Bracken finished in 2 hours 01 minute 21 seconds, which placed Bracken in second position in her category, and Marcia finished her race in 2.25.39.

A little further afield, husband and wife BATs Colin and Nikki Putt completed their first half marathon this weekend when they took on the Salomon Richmond Half, which is a flat and fast two lap multi terrain race on road, towpath and grass, which starts and finishes at Old Deer Park in Richmond, just a mile from Kew Gardens. In unseasonably warm sunshine, Colin crossed the line in 16.49 and Nick Putt in 2.44.38.
