STUDENTS, friends and families of Tavistock College and the wider learning community were treated to an evening of fine jazz music performed by Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra recently.
During the afternoon, students from local primary schools, Tavistock Music Academy and Tavistock College's jazz band all took part in jazz workshops led by the Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra (DYJO) ambassadors in the main hall.
The highlight of the evening was when all the students that had been involved in the workshops throughout the day joined DYJO on stage for a 'C Jam Blues'. During the performance many students, some as young as three, performed improvised solos for the first time.
Head of music at the college Sarah Pappin said: 'This was an extremely rare opportunity for musicians from the learning community to perform alongside such a high calibre ensemble.
'Many students are now aspiring to one day be a member of DYJO themselves.'
