WHEN it comes to a new art competition to celebrate the forthcoming Dickensian Evening in Tavistock then organisers say they have 'Great Expectations'.

The Times, in partnership with Tavistock Business Improvement District (Tavistock BID) are offering a great prize for a 'Dickensian' drawing competition, open to children 12 years old and under.

The Dickensian Evening on Friday, November 30, will see the town bursting in Victorian splendour, with traders dressing up in costume, Christmas carols being sung in the street, and lots of delightful 'olde worlde' stalls.

To mark the occasion the Times and Tavistock BID invite entries of A4-sized drawings to illustrate a scene from the town 100 years ago.

The lucky winner will receive a £25 voucher from Kaleidoscope toy shop in Brook Street and have their picture and name on the front cover of the special Dickensian Supplement in the Times on Thursday.

Not only that but the young artist will have the honour of helping to switch on the town's Christmas lights!

Entries will be judged by the Times' deputy general manager Carol Garbett, and a representative from Tavistock BID.

The picture will be reproduced on the front cover in black and white, but entries are welcomed in colour.

Normal competition rules apply. Entries posted by Monday, November 5 to the Times at 14 Brook Street, Tavistock, PL18 5HD or handed in at the reception. Please include your name, address and a contact telephone number.

So time to get those crayons and pencils out and get drawing!
