WELL, we asked for support from the residents of Tavistock and surrounding areas, and, my goodness, did we get it! The 17th annual Charity Bonanza, organised by ?Friends of Tavistock Area Support Services?, and held at Tavistock Pannier Market, was our most successful for many years. On the day there were 21 local charities present and they must be congratulated for the quality (and prices) of their goods. We know that some of them raised record sums for the day that will be used for the benefit of local people. Luckily, the sun turned out for the thousands of visitors and this enabled us to put some stalls in Bedford Square where the volunteers were treated to the lively concert from the Stannary Brass Band (themselves good friends of TASS). The bonanza was opened by Cllr Jenny Metcalf, the mayor of Tavistock, and the record should note the assistance given to us by the town council, the market reeve and his hard-working staff, and the market traders who ?combined? with us on the day. Most of all, however, thank you, the public, for turning up in such numbers. Bryan Podmore Friends of Tavistock Area Support Services
