At 18, local Yelverton girl George Jones left home on a gap year to model in London.

This gap year turned into eight, and saw George working between Milan Paris and London, shooting campaigns for some of the world’s best brands such as Armani, Burberry, and De Beers Diamonds.

At 26, after a bad fall, George was encouraged by local Tavistock osteopath, Debbie Perkins, to consider taking up a place to study for a degree in osteopathy.

At 30 George graduated from the British School Of Osteopathy, got married in Tavistock and moved to North Wales with her osteopath husband Simeon.

Blessed with three children in quick succession, George then experienced the misery of children with dry, sensitive skin.

‘It was so distressing’ she recalls, ‘I was desperate to find something that could soothe their sore skin, but also something that didn’t contain Palm oil, or lots of plastic packaging.’

Determined that she could do better, George set out to create her own natural skincare range. Fuelled by a lifelong love of herbalism and with a detailed knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the human body, George loaned a soap making book from her local library in Ruthin and set out on her mission.

After 10 years George has grown her business from a kitchen table start up, to a B Corp Certified company with 30 national awards under their belt.

Bathing Beauty is now housed at The Source, a collection of ancient agricultural buildings which nestle in the foothills of The Clwydian Range in North Wales.

The products are still all hand made from scratch using George’s original recipes, by her all-female team.

Passionate about the Process, People and the Planet, Bathing Beauty donates 1% of their turnover to Climate Stripe and are committed to using Bathing Beauty as a force for good in the world through their B Corp Certification.

At 51, George is returning to Tavistock to promote her skincare collaboration with OXFAM.

Oxfam have selected eight of George’s ethical skincare products to be sold in stores across the UK.

George is in The West Street Tavistock Oxfam store next Tuesday, May 31 at 11am, why not pop in and say hello, find out more about Bathing Beauty and how their products can help you, whilst not Costing The Earth.
