Honiton seconds 48
Tavistock seconds 8
TAVISTOCK travelled to Honiton looking to keep their unbeaten record.
The early part was fairly even until the 10 minute mark when Honiton broke off the back of the scrum and headed to the try line only to be brought down short by the Tavistock defence - the home side recycled the ball quickly and one of their forwards powered over from close range and the conversion was added.
Tavistock replied straight away with a well taken penalty from debutant Eddie Edwards bringing the score to 7-3. Tavistock put pressure on the home defence but unable to find a way through.
Honiton stole a scrum and showed blistering pace to go over for their second try which again they converted.
Tavistock again were testing the home defence through some powerful running from debutant Lawrence Ellis and back rower James MacDowall taking them to the home sides 5 metre line before Honiton cleared their lines. Honiton gained a scrum on the half way line and their scrum half raced from the back to extend their lead to 19-3.
Tavistock showed great determination and got themselves back in the visitors half. Debutant Liam Mills did a sterling job at scrum half. Honiton gave away a penalty inside their 22 and quick thinking by Jake Chinn took it quickly and passed it wide to fellow forward Tony Worle who put MacDowall in for the try leaving the score at 19-8 to the home side at half time.
Honiton started the second half strongly and loose tackling by the Tavistock backs lead to a try which they failed to convert. The visitors came back and were camped on Honiton's five metre line but unable to get through. Honiton lost two players in quick succession to the sin bin but it did not stop them from scoring as their fly half went through the Tavistock defence twice to score and convert. They added a penalty and another try just before full time for a convincing victory and end Tavistock's unbeaten record.
