A LIGHT hearted history of wine and wine making, informative and entertaining, is brought dramatically to life at the Wharf in Tavistock next month, by a wealth of anecdote and quotation from wine lovers both real and fictitious. How did wine begin?  Who put the bubbles in Champagne?  What was Jeeves' patent morning reviver?  What do you do when a chap forgets to pass the port?  Wit and wisdom from the world of wine! The guide for this fascinating tour is actor Julian Curry, best remembered as Claude Erskine-Brown in Rumpole of the Bailey. He also has wide ranging stage and screen credits, including leading roles with the RSC, at the National Theatre and in London's West End. Here he unites his twin passions of wine and theatre in Hic! or The Entire History of Wine (Abridged). This will be preceded by a short talk entitled The Demystification and Skills of Wine Tasting by local wine expert Charles Steevenson who will also provide a glass of something suitable to celebrate Valentine's Day. For a memorable and special evening book now for Hic! Or The Entire History Of Wine (Abridged), appearing at The Wharf, Tavistock on Thursday February 14 at 7pm. Tickets cost £12.
