Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 3

Lamerton 6

Godolphin 2

LAMERTON played their best football of the year in the first half against a stronger Godolphin side than the one who beat them earlier in the season.

The midfield of Steve Gibbings, Kev Swift, Dan Healy and Will Cann dominated possession while the front two of Paul Cowling and Steve Wickett cut holes in the visitors? defence.

The first goal came when a floating cross from Wickett deceived everybody and went in off the far post. His second was a well executed volley which gave the keeper no chance and he completed a hat-trick within 20 minutes when he ran the ball in after the keeper mishandled a Simon Breyley cross.

Godolphin pulled one back when a floated free kick from Steve Carne deceived Pete Daniel and dropped into the net.

Lamerton came straight back with Cowling cutting in from the right, beating two defenders to add to the score before setting up Wickett to lob the keeper for his fourth.

The visitors pulled a second goal back when Ryan Curtis nudged the ball home from a free kick.

Godolphin came back strongly in the second half when it was the turn of the Lamerton defence to shine. Full backs Ian Collacott and Graham Cole both had the measure of their wingers, having time to support the attack down the flanks, while Tim Lyle and Simon Breyley kept it tight down the centre with good man marking.

An excellent saving tackle by Breyley and a point blank save by Daniel meant the visitors did not add to their score in the second half.

The only goal of the second period came when Healy slammed the ball in after the keeper saved from man of the match Wickett.

This Saturday home to Torpoint in the league, kick-off2.30pm.
