WITH sadness I hear that West Devon Borough Council is considering closing Meadowlands swimming pool. It considers that the void can be filled by opening the doors to Kelly College, what a great loss to the town this closure would be. I have friends who come from Plymouth and the outlying areas to use this pool as its location and the other facilities that Tavistock offers far outweighs their own. I myself live in St Ann's Chapel, my choices now become Launceston, in need of refurbishment, Plymouth, too sterile and young oriented, St Mellion, way out of the pocket of us ordinary folk. Surely closure can't be the only option. Taking away one of Tavistock's outstanding features puts another nail in the coffin of small towns. Ian Robertson St Ann's Chapel I AM a disabled swimmer. I like the Meadowlands pool because I cannot get out of my depth, there is a trained attendant and specialised equipment, a paddling pool, and a jacuzzi. In addition, there is a café providing drinks and meals. The Kelly pool has a different, although desirable, clientele. John Lamerton Mary Tavy LOCAL residents are right to protest at the prospect of Meadowlands pool closure. That the savings will support the Olympic pool at the out of town private Kelly College is truly scandalous. I would ask how how many of the protesters helped vote in a Conservative Government? What did you expect? Phil Payne The Glade Crapstone
